i have to have dental probing done before i have a deep cleaning. does it hurt? and how long will it take;?
should i have novocaine with this? i have no idea what is going to happen when i have them "probed". the deep cleaning is going to be terrifying, but is this going to be just as bad?
The hygienist measures the pocket between the gum and bone- this should measure 2-3mm- if there is infection there could be sensitivity but nothing that you won't live through. If it is too sensitive, you can be numbed but this can give false readings. I is better to persevere. The more still you can hold, the faster it will go. My probing took about 1 minute but I don't have perio. The probe is small and thin and not sharp. You can definitely be numbed for the deep cleaning. Ask if you can have Nitrous oxide to help you relax during the procedure. Remember the follow up appointments are so important.
